The New Year’s Quilt PDF Print E-mail
Written by Mona J. Burtz
Tuesday, 29 January 2008

Synopsis from Jennifer Chiaverini’s website www.elmcreek.net:

As each holiday season approaches, some revel in welcoming the New Year ahead; others quietly mourn the passing of time gone by. "We can't hold on to the past," says Master Quilter Sylvia Compson, "but we can keep the best part of 'Auld Lang Syne' in our hearts and in our memories, and we can look forward to the future with hope and resolve." As Sylvia, a late-in-life newlywed, has discovered, love can enter our lives at any age. Yet before she can truly delight in her present happiness, she must face the sorrow hidden in her past -- her own role in the tragic circumstances that left her estranged from her sister, Claudia, until it was too late to make amends.

Looking for a special cold weather meal that still allows you to quilt all day?  Well, nothing says love like pot roast!  And nothing is easier than this crock pot delight.

2 cups water
5 to 6 lb. beef pot roast
1-oz. package ranch dressing mix
.7-oz. package Italian salad dressing mix
.87-oz. package brown gravy mix
7 or 8 potatoes, peeled and cubed
9 or 10 carrots, peeled and thickly sliced

Pour water into slow cooker, then add roast.  Combine mixes and sprinkle on roast.  Cook on low setting for 6 to 7 hours.  Add potatoes and carrots during the last 2 hours.  Serves 6 to 8.

Add a salad, crusty bread, and an ice cream sundae for a scrumptiously easy any day feast!
