Re:Cotton Theory by Jessica 1 Year, 10 Months ago Hey, has anyone done a waterclolr quilt...I have seen them many times and have not had the courage to try. I was wondering how it was to work on, etc...
I am thinking about it...what do you all think and do you have any suggestions?

Re:Cotton Theory by susiejac 1 Year, 10 Months ago Like you, Jessica, I've been tempted many times to try a watercolor quilt but haven't done it. I did get an email from a site you might like: www.whims.cc The site is really great if you're interested in watercolor quilts, and they even offer a free pattern. Check it out when you have a chance.

Re:Cotton Theory by Jessica 1 Year, 10 Months ago Jackie,
I just looked at that site... a kit would be a great way to start one fo these...if I didn't likeit ...I wouldn't have all of that time invested...and if I did....I could start with another pattern.

Re:Cotton Theory by susiejac 1 Year, 10 Months ago Let me know how things work out. The free pattern also comes in a very inexpensive quilt...I've thought about ordering it but have soooo many FQs that I could make up my own. Of course, that will have to come after a zillion UFOs I have, and I'm taking a class on Saturday. Wonder if I'll ever get them done...

Re:Cotton Theory by Jessica 1 Year, 10 Months ago I do know what you mean...I was thinking of this watercolor thing as a winter project. If I do decide on it...I won't do anything else until it it done...I think it will take a lot of concentration. I have a lot of UFQ's. I was hoping to get some of the projects finished so that i can use them as gifts this Christmas. Sooo my thinking was to get some of these other things out of the way and try one of these and see how it goes...

Re:Cotton Theory by fabriholic 1 Year, 10 Months ago Adding to the watercolor discussion. I once took a class. I made a 12 X 14 inch quilt. Took me 4 hours to just pick out the squares and put them together. It takes a lot of squares & patience and a good eye. I really like my finished product; but it was the first & probably the last one I make. I wish anyone who wants to tackle a watercolor quilt, good luck! You need a lot of different fabrics (including the back side) to make one. Also, we didn't have a pattern, we just made it up as we went along. Mine is the sun shining down on a garden. It is work, but really a lot of fun and such a feeling of accomplishment when you get a watercolor finished!

Re:Cotton Theory by susiejac 1 Year, 10 Months ago What you just said is the reason that I would probably invest in a small kit for a first project. Maybe that would be cheating but at least it might not discourage a person from doing another. I think they're beautiful, and the satisfaction would probably be worth the time and effort. I certainly hope one is in my future as well as Jessica's. I seem to get in a rut - so excited to start a new project but quickly bored with it. Perhaps a small watercolor quilt would be more inspiring.

Re:Cotton Theory by Jessica 1 Year, 10 Months ago I think you girls are right...a SMALL kit would be the way to start out. It would be best not to invest in all the fabric and time of a full-sized quilt until I knew I would finish it and enjoy the process.
I'll look around for just that and see what I can find...if you all find a website or know of a small kit that can be purchased reasonably...let me know. Thanks, Jessica

Re:Cotton Theory by susiejac 1 Year, 10 Months ago Go back to the www.whims.cc web site and check out their quilt kits. There was one (Yellow Rose, I believe) that was under $20 for the kit. It seemed to me that it would be a good one to start with.
